How to Choose A Name For Your Secretarial Service Business

Choosing a name for your secretarial business is important. Select it carefully.

Be sure your business name fits these criteria:

Which of these has more appeal? HyperTyper or Judy's Word Processing? "HyperTyper" tells what Gloria Laube of La Mesa does. Not only does she type, but she types fast. Many people have commented they choose Gloria's services because of her business name.

A Promotional Tool

The right name is an effective advertising tool. If it doesn't describe the nature of your business, potential clients may not realize that you offer something they need.

Choose a name that is simple and easy to remember. You want your clients to be able to pronounce it and spell it. They also have to remember it to call information when they lost your phone number. For example, which of these is easier to remember: "Bob's Graphics," or "La sécretere Rapide?"

The first letter of your business name will affect where you are listed in the Yellow Pages. Keep your name short – a long name increases your advertising cost.

List Characteristics

List all the characteristics of your business. Find synonyms. Check several categories in the Yellow Pages and look for existing names you like. Play with combinations and variations of all of the above.

Brainstorm

Think, brainstorm and you will come up with ideas that fit your needs. The process of brainstorming involves the interaction among several people where each throws out ideas. Send a short survey to your friends and business associates. Have them vote from 1-10.

Try using any of these descriptions in a name: Word Processing – Secretarial Services – Transcription/Transcribing – Medical Transcription – Legal Transcription – Office Support – Desktop Publishing – Graphic Design.

Should you Use your Own Name?

Using your own name, followed by the type of service works well if you have a reputation in your specialty. An example is "Jim Smith's Medical Transcription" or "John Doe's Legal Transcription." Looking like a one-person organization makes your business more personalized. People like to deal with the same person rather than with different people each time. Try your own name in combination with any of the above. Add words such as professional, excellent, reliable, fast, express, and creative.

Test Your Name

Once you have chosen a few names, test them out on friends and family, potential clients and everyone you know. Ask them what kind of service they think you provide and what feeling they get about the name. Check the fictitious business names to be sure nobody else uses the same name.

Register Your Fictitious Business Name (D.B.A.)

If you want to operate your business under a name other than your personal name, e.g., John Doe doing business as "Typing Plus," the county, city, or state may require you to register your fictitious name. Registering your business name also prevents others from using it.

Procedures vary from state to state. In many states, you pay a registration fee to the county clerk at the county office. Some states require placing a fictitious-name ad in a local newspaper. The newspaper printing the legal notice for your business name usually files the necessary papers with the county for a small fee. Check your local papers and shop around as prices vary drastically. Papers with smaller circulation are less expensive.

Your bank may require a fictitious-name registry to open a business account. Call your bank or local city courthouse to find out the procedure for your area.

Fictitious-name filings do not apply to corporations in most states unless the corporation is doing business under a name other than its own. You won't need to register a fictitious business name if your own name is part of your business name because the registration's purpose is to protect your clients by making it public knowledge who owns the business.

Sample Of Fictitious Business Names: A Way With Words, Anderson Typefast, Creative Computer Graphics, Office Specialist, Fast Fingers, Hypertyper, Marathon Computer Words, Robin to the Rescue, SOS Word Processing, The Branch Office, The Office Extension, The Secretary, The Steno Pool, Word Processing Emergencies

After selecting your business name, you can create your logo, letterhead, envelopes, and business cards.

Is Your Microwave Cooking Making You Sick?

Do you know what (besides a television) is in almost every home in America? It's a microwave oven. Because microwave ovens are quick and easy and don't take up much space, they are used for meal preparation in the home, at the office, and even restaurants. Even your favorite healthy restaurant may depend on these electrical devices to quickly heat up or cook foods. So, the question here is —microwaved food is evil

Are microwave ovens safe, and is it ok to eat the food cooked in them?

Before we look at the science of how microwaved food can affect your blood chemistry and negatively affect your health, let's look at a bigger picture, common-sense thought process about this…

If you think about it from this perspective, the human digestive system evolved over tens of thousands of years to digest food that was either raw or cooked in water or by heat.  However, food cooked via microwaves is a totally alien and unknown cooking method to the human digestive system.

It's just common sense that such a radically different cooking method will alter the chemistry of the food to negatively impact our health.

Now onto a little more science…

Let's take a look at how microwaves ovens work

Microwaves are a part of the whole electromagnetic spectrum of energy that includes light waves and radio waves. They travel at the speed of light–which is about 186,282 miles per second. So how does that oven heat up the food so fast?

Inside the microwave oven, there is a "magnetron" which is a tube full of electrons. The electrons in the microwave oven react with magnetic and electronic energy and become micro wavelengths. This is the radiation that interacts with the molecules in food.

Food molecules have a positive and negative end, kind of like the way a magnet has a north and a south polarity. The electrons from the magnetron produce wavelengths that react with the positive and negative parts of the food molecules. The food molecules then start vibrating, up to several million times a second. This molecular "vibration" is what creates the heat in the food.

This agitiation deforms the molecules in food and creates new unnatural radiolytic compounds previously unknown to nature. These strange foreign compounds in microwaved food have been shown to damage the blood, the digestive system, and our immune systems.

Microwave ovens have been actually been around for about 40 or so years, but so far, only a couple of in-depth scientific studies have been done on them.

Research showing negative health impacts of eating microwaved food

Extensive research, though, was conducted in both Switzerland and Russia on microwaved foods and their effects on the human body. Both studies concluded that microwaving foods significantly deteriorated the nutrient value of the food, distorted protein molecules in the food, and created new, radically unnatural compounds. Most alarming, however, was that the subjects' health deteriorated from eating the microwaved foods.

Their findings included:

The Russian scientists found the microwave oven significantly scary enough to actually ban its use–up until recently.

When food is cooked in a microwave oven, it has:

And here is a really interesting study—done on grain germination:

The grain watered with microwaved (and cooled) water would not not even germinate or grow! It's pretty obvious that microwaving changed the water chemically and destroyed its ability to nourish a plant.

Ok, so maybe it's ok to just heat leftovers in the microwave oven once in a while?

NO! Actually, food heated in a microwave is heated unevenly creating super-heated spots and cool spots. Those cool spots may actually harbor bacterial growth such as salmonella, and you end up with food poisoning.

In addition, when you use plastic containers or plastic wrap in contact with your food, you end up getting all sorts of nasty chemicals like di(ethylhexyl)adepate, or DEHA, (a carcinogen), Bisphenol-A or BPA (a cancer-causing agent in plastics) and xenoestrogens (synthetic estrogens) in your food!

In one recent study, it was found that carcinogenic ingredients in plastic wrap were 10,000 times the FDA limit for safety!

Exposure to BPA, used in the manufacture of polycarbonate and other plastics, has been shown to cause reproductive problems and erectile dysfunction, and has been linked with cardiovascular disease and diabetes in humans.

Xenoestrogens are really nasty synthetic estrogens that seem to show up everywhere. In men, xenoestrogens can cause low sperm counts and feminization (like the dreaded "man boobs") and breast cancer and reproductive problems in women. Xenoestrogens promote weight gain around the belly and chest in men, and in women, it shows up as fat in the butt, hips, thighs and the back of arms.

So, in addition to being really unhealthy, microwaved foods can make you fat!

Parents should never warm breast milk or formula in the microwave oven—not only can it superheat the milk and burn the baby, but microwaving destroys the very valuable nutrients, enzymes and protein vital to babies' growth!

And here is something really scary: in 1991, a patient received blood that had been warmed in a microwave oven. That patient died of a severe anaphylactic reaction to the blood. The microwaving created something totally unrecognizable by the body!

If you want to be safe, healthy and LEAN, avoid your microwave—totally.  Personally, I threw out my microwave about 6 years ago and haven't even missed it!

There are far healthier and better alternatives:

Or you may want to try this– small countertop convection ovens are great for cooking foods faster and more evenly than a regular oven or on the stove.

You can actually cook a frozen 15-oz. grass-fed ribeye in 20 minutes, and it is delicious; browned, tender and juicy. These little convection ovens will broil, bake, fry, roast, grill or steam your favorite foods, including meat, chicken, and vegetable. It takes 20-30% less time than a regular oven, and uses about 75% less energy.

This is a far healthier option than a cancer-causing, nutrient-robbing, microwave oven!

Lose Fat Naturally without Supplements or Bogus Fat Loss Pills… Don’t Fall Victim to the Scams!

Hey there. It's Mike here and I wanted to talk in today's Lean-Body Secrets Ezine a little more about supplements and fat loss pills.

The fact is, I still get questions almost daily from people that are still being suckered into throwing away loads of money on worthless "fat loss" pills and "muscle building" powders due to the clever marketing behind the supplement and fat loss pill industry.

The questions come in all the time, such as:

"Mike, what types of supplements should I be taking to help me lose fat quicker?", or

"Mike, I heard about this new weight loss pill called ______ that claims I can lose more than 30 pounds in a month. Do you think I should try it?", or how about this one…

"Mike, my friend just told me about this new Mega-Mass-Gainer-8000-Nitric-Cell-Volumizer that's supposed to make me put on 20 lbs of muscle in just 3 weeks. They said to get it quickly because the feds are planning to make it illegal in a few weeks"

It absolutely blows my mind every day that so many people are willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for all of these completely bogus supplements and pills, but they aren't willing to invest as little as $39 on my Truth about Six Pack Abs program, which shows them exactly how to save thousands of dollars throughout their lives by never having to buy supplements again, and discovering the training strategies and nutrition secrets (for how to eat naturally for fat loss and muscle gain) that actually get REAL fat loss results for LIFE!

Seriously, the only thing you could call a "supplement" that I've bought during the last 5 years is whey protein for mixing into my post-workout smoothies. That's it! That's about the only thing I'd even recommend including regularly. And to be honest, you could even do fine without that as well if you use some high quality natural sources of protein.

As for all of the new miracle pills that everyone asks me about….again, PLEASE don't waste any money on this stuff. This is exactly how the pharmaceutical and supplement industry makes billions off of people that are simply lazy and looking for a quick fix.

They take the quick fix pill or diet, might lose a few pounds, and they subsequently lower their metabolism by losing lean muscle. Then they gain back all of the weight plus more, in the long run.

So then when the next magic pill comes out, they buy that, make the pharmaceutical and supplement companies even richer, lose a little bit of weight again, wreck their metabolism again, eventually gain back even more than before, and go back to searching for another fad diet or magic pill.

This is an endless cycle that constantly goes on, and all that happens is these companies that promote this CRAP get richer, while the frustrated dieters get fatter. I'm serious, look at the stats…over the last 20 years, diet pills and supplements have exploded in popularity, while the population has simultaneously gotten fatter and fatter. Obviously, the pills and supplements have not solved the problem, and if anything, have only made things worse.

So what does work for true fat loss and a lean muscular body for life?

The ONLY way to lose body fat and get to a nice lean body composition and maintain it for LIFE, comes from these basic aspects:

This mental aspect is more important than people realize, and I'll get into this more in future Ezine issues.

My last thought is that I want you to think back to how many times over the years you had the idea that you wanted to get back into shape, and maybe even started exercising and eating right for a little while, but eventually went right back to the negative habits. Think about why you abandoned your good intentions and gave up, and then figure out why you're NOT going to give up this time.

I hope this article has helped you realize that supplements, miracle pills, and diet fads will NEVER work in the long run. You may lose some fat for a few weeks or months, but in the long run, these are all a waste of money, unless you adopt the right lifestyle to maintain a lean body for LIFE.

If you haven't picked up a copy of my Truth about Six Pack Abs book yet, do yourself a favor, and use the money you would have wasted on your next bottle of supplement pills or powder, and discover the program that will get you lean, healthy, and ripped for the rest of your life, not just the next 2 weeks!

I'll be back in touch soon with more Lean-Body Secrets. I also have a couple great lean-body recipes coming up over the next few weeks that I think you'll enjoy, so hang on.

Learn New Things About Photoshop Everyday

Learn How to Use Photoshop in Just 2 Hours. Click Here For Details

Want to get rid of that nasty shine that you get taking pictures? Well now you can, follow these easy steps: Let's start with a great, overlooked trick. After opening the image, open the same image again in a new window. In Photoshop, choose Window ->Arrange -> New Window. In Elements choose View->New Window. This allows you to view one window zoomed in for detail work and the other window at 100% so you can judge the effects. Using the magnifying glass tool draw a box around the area of shine. Make the box big enough to also show a fair amount of un-shiny skin. Select the Clone tool. At the top of the page select Mode: Darken and use the slider to set Opacity at 50%.Using the Clone Tool, select an area of un-shiny skin by putting the circle over the area and holding down the Alt button while left-clicking the mouse. To best match skin tone try to select the area of skin closest to the shine. Quick tip, to easily resize the Clone Tool circle simply use the bracket keys, [ and ] – much easier than moving your cursor back and forth between the photo and the Size slider. Now simply click on the shiny area and watch the magic happen. You'll have to experiment a little for best effect, and for larger areas be sure to resample the un-shiny skin frequently. In the zoomed-in image the effect might look too obvious, so you'll need to keep an eye on the 100% image to track your progress. Notice the difference on the tip of the nose, the cheek, and above his eye.

Pictures are made up of many things, editing requires knowledge of all 3: 1) Contrasts adjustments (the highlights and the shadows) 2) Neutral tones balance (color cast on grey) 3) Increasing or decreasing the saturation The work flow of the photographic post production can be performed with many adjustment tools as: Brightness/contrast – Color Balance – Hue/Saturation, or Levels – Hue/Saturation, or Auto-Adjustments – Sponge. This tutorial is very brief and introduces a new method to decrease color cast on neutral tones. The picture has a really intense orange color cast. I took this picture of Christopher Columbus' statue along the "lower pavement" in Funchal (Madeira Island). No need to be a colorimetric expert to understand that, the light effect due to the night orange lights is to much. The goal is to decrease color cast, of course, without changing the "meaning" of the picture.First of all we duplicate the background layer. Then we apply Filter>Blur>Average, that will transform the picture's layer into a colored "stain" by the average pixels' color. Then we have to invert (ctrl+i) the obtained color in order to see the opposite color. Now we change blending mode to Color (read also Blending modes tutorial) and decrease master opacity until we obtain our goal. And that's all!

Gradient maps can help your coloring on Photo manipulations a lot. They can be used to help blend things in and to make the colors in things the same. So you should have the same picture from the section Textures open. Okay now looking at you textures picture. You might think. My textures dont really blend in well with my face. So I am going to show you how to blend those in better using gradient maps. So I want you to decide what you want your face to look like (mainly color wise). So to make my textures blend in more I start off by going to Image> Adjustments> Gradient Map. Since I want a green picture I am going to pick a green/yellow gradient map. Then I am going to set it on soft light. After I put the opacity down a bit. Then I added a black and white gradient map. I did this because I wanted to make the picture a bit darker. I left the black and white gradient map on normal and set it on around 50% opacity. It will get rid of a bit of the color but thats what the green and yellow gradient maps were for (they were to add color so it didnt look really bland when we added the black and white one). Here is my picture after adding gradient maps.

There is only two things you have too know about the ExtendScript Toolkit program right now: Select target application, ExtendScript must know which application you are writing the script for. In the top left dropdown menu select Adobe Photoshop CS2 and if asked if you want top start it choose yes. Running script, to run a script you have written you press the button that looks like a play button. Reference documents All objects have different properties that can be set and methods that can be executed and right now you probably don't know any of these, this is where the reference documents come in. The reference document for JavaScript contains information about all objects available in your scripts.

Start with a blank photoshop document of size 1024*768 and white background. Choose the brush "rough round bristle" from the toolbar. Create a new layer and draw some lines. Right click on the new layer and choose "blending options". Choose the values. DROP SHADOW INNER GLOW BEVEL AND EMBOSS; For "texture", choose "satin" as the pattern. TEXTURE Now add some motion blur to this layer from filters > blur > motion blur. Similarly, add gaussian blur also to this layer with the radius around 72. Not so catchy yet. Well try this. Change the background color of the default layer as black by choosing Edit > Fill from menu. Now look at the output. Ahh, that looks much better, isn't it ? You can add some text to this texturized background if you wish.

As with many applications, working in Photoshop can be made far easier and more efficient by using keyboard shortcuts.Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + N New layer Ctrl/Cmd + J Duplicate current layeR. Here are a few useful shortcuts: Ctrl/Cmd + [ Move layer downwards Ctrl/Cmd + ] Move layer upwards Ctrl/Cmd + E Merge linked layers Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + E Merge visible layers Ctrl/Cmd + A Select all Ctrl/Cmd + D Deselect Ctrl/Cmd + L Levels Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + L Auto levels Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Alt + L Auto contrast Ctrl/Cmd + M Curves Ctrl/Cmd + I Invert colours Ctrl/Cmd + Z Undo Ctrl/Cmd + Alt + Z Step back in history Ctrl/Cmd + F Apply last used filter Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + X Liquify tool Ctrl/Cmd + Alt + Shift + X Pattern tool

Our eyes can sometimes deceive us. Everyone's eyes see slightly different colors. One person will see a purple color, while another will see a blue. Those that are colorblind cannot distinguish some colors from another. While we see it to be a good skin tone, it may not be seen as one to someone else. Also, depending on the monitor that you own, you may see a different color than other computers. Making palettes straight from photos heightens the chance greatly of realistic, more accurate works. Also, these color palettes are used professionally. Those who work with color correction use this to help them with their vocations. Even the printing press use this. You can also take colors from the lips, eyes and hair to help with realistic color of those. You would use it the same way as you did for the skin. Finding the darkest, the mid tone, and the lightest before creating a palette to use.

Nutrition Professor Loses 27 Pounds on Twinkie Diet: What Should We Make of It?

The most controversial weight loss story on the web this week: Mark Haub, a nutrition professor from Kansas State University, lost 27 pounds in 10 weeks on a "convenience store diet" with at least two-thirds of his food consisting of Twinkies, Little Debbie Snacks, Doritos, Sugary Cereals and Oreos. The rest of his intake included some vegetables, protein drinks and a multi-vitamin.

The weight loss wasn't surprising, since he limited himself to 1800 calories per day on his "Twinkie diet," which was part of a class experiment. What surprised most people was that his health indicators (HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride) got better, not worse. What now? Should we trade in our fruits and veggies for ding dongs?

Since CNNreported on Professor Haub's experiment earlier this week, the blogosphere has lit up with some (very divided) commentary.

Haub's experiement, which he documented on his facebook page, has been drawing ire from the natural health, nutrition-fanatic, anti-junk food crowd who say the experiment was irresponsible and that publicizing the results is sending the wrong message. They're saying, "It's about nutrition and food quality above all else!"

On the other hand, it drew responses of "no duh" or "nothing new" from other people who claim that "It's about calories in versus calories out above all else."

Haub's hypothesis: it's the calories that matter for weight loss. His results certainly support that.

Ironically, people on both sides of the argument are right and wrong at the same time. The way people have interpreted these results and the way they've gotten so riled up about this makes it clear to me that most people STILL don't get it.

What does Haub's "Twinkie Diet" experiment really prove?

This is simply a great anecdotal example that weight loss really is a matter of calories in versus calories out. Eat less than you burn and you will lose weight

Obesity is caused by an energy imbalance. Consume more calories than you burn and you will gain weight.

For people in this day and age to deny the truth about thermodynamics in weight loss – a truth which is published in hundreds of nutrition, physiology and exercise science textbooks and thousands of peer-reviewed scientific papers – is unfathomable.

Denying that calories matter in weight loss is like denying gravity (you can ignore it if you want, but the consequences could get ugly).

But such is the power of personal belief systems. People believe in all kinds of weird things about health, food and weight loss, which they sometimes defend with religious ferocity.

All over the world, we still see people swear that obesity is caused by ____________ (fill in the blank): hormones, toxins, ph imbalance, inflammation, grains, meat, fat, carbs, or… ITS THE JUNK FOOD!…

Whatever dietary or physiological scapegoat they want to blame it on, as long as it's…ANYTHING BUT THE CALORIES!

(because it couldn't be as simple as that… could it?)

Does junk food contribute to obesity? Sure it does – because it's calorie-dense and easy to over-eat, (and some argue, addictive), especially the high fat plus high sugar combination, and especially liquid sugar in the form of soda.

But that brings us full circle to calories in versus calories out doesn't it? If you eat foods that easily lead you into a surplus, you get fat. It happens whether the foods are "clean" or "unclean", whether they are protein, carbs or fat, animal-based or vegetarian.

The idea that eating all natural, nutrient-dense food is all it takes to achieve weight loss is incorrect. You can eat all natural, unprocessed, organic, "clean" food, but if you overeat (into a surplus) you will still gain fat.

So should we follow the professor and adopt the Twinkie diet, knowing that you can lose weight on a low calorie junk food diet?

No, of course not. That's NOT what I'm suggesting at all. Nutritional quality is extremely important for health, energy, longevity, vitality and mental acuity. The long term consumption of artificial, processed food will eventually lead to health problems of one type or another. With sugary junk foods, I'm particularly concerned given today's epidemic of diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

Why didn't Haub get sick?

There are some simple possibilities for why this nutrition professor may not have seen decrements in his health markers:

  1. This was a short term experiment. Long term results may be much different
  2. Losing weight – by itself – leads to improvements in health, ie cholesterol, blood pressure, etc.
  3. It appears that Haub didn't take a full panel of health measurements, only a few which are highly responsive to weight loss.
  4. Some people are pre-disposed to react badly to dietary fat and especially sugar, while others are not. Perhaps Mr. Haub was one of the luckier ones in the genetics department.

On the other hand, if his junk food eating had lead to a calorie surplus and he gained weight, which is very likely to happen in free-living (especially sedentary) individuals who aren't carefully tracking calories like Haub did, his health markers would have gone down the sh*tter.

Here's the problem: with the media circus that this stunt has created (even people like Rush Limbaugh have chimed in), I agree that people could misinterpret this story/experiment as free license to eat anything. In fact, that is the exact message I'm seeing all over the web among bloggers and commenters.

The media typically does a poor job reporting on these types of things – journalists are usually not fitness/nutrition experts. But there are actually some (otherwise) very smart people using Haub's experiment as proof, to support their belief that all you have to do is get your calories right and get your macronutrients (protein, etc) right and after that, anything goes – eat what you want.

I think it's fair to say that Haubs's experiment supports the idea that you don't have to be a health food fanatic. It's ok to enjoy the foods you want and relax your diet a bit… but not too much!

When I see the kind of dichotomous thinking that suggests its either calorie quality OR calorie quantity that matters, I know that people on both sides of the issue still have a long way to go in understanding the cause of obesity and the relationship between weight loss and health.

On top of that, it's alarming how few people are discussing the importance of body composition versus weight loss. The macronutrient ratio and nutritional quality of your diet – particularly in combination with training – can affect what kind of weight is lost – fat or muscle.

What should we make of all this? Let me sum it up for you:

Food QUANTITY for weight management…food QUALITY for health and vitality… You'd better get BOTH of them right if you want to be lean AND healthy for life.

Study Shows 1 Obscure Trick to Make ANY Exercise Program or Workout MUCH More Effective

I've read about this very interesting Harvard University study about exercise multiple times in the past, but I was just recently reminded about this study again while reading the fascinating book called 59 Seconds by Richard Wiseman.

Pay attention, because this actually shows a pretty powerful trick that you can use to literally make ANY workout or exercise program a LOT more effective and results producing.

According to the book 59 Seconds, here's how this study was carried out:

Researchers at Harvard University studied over 80 hotel room cleaning attendants from 7 different hotels.  The hotel room attendants naturally received a lot of exercise from their daily jobs, which included cleaning an average of 15 rooms per day at about 25 minutes per room.  This work involves a good deal of exercise in carrying things, scrubbing, lifting objects, vacuuming, and so on.

The researchers knew the hotel maids led an active lifestyle from their work, but also questioned whether most of the maids may not realize that their work was actually good for their health.  The researchers set out to study the effects on the hotel attendants of making them very aware of how beneficial the exercise they got while working was for their health, and to see if this increased the results that they actually received from the exercise.

Basically, the question was… Would telling them that their work was great exercise improve their health, lower their blood pressure, and help them to lose weight compared to the hotel attendants that didn't realize their work was in fact "exercise"?

The hotel attendants were split into 2 groups:

1. This group was informed about the benefits of exercise and told how many calories they were burning while doing their hotel cleaning work each day. They were specifically told how many calories activities such as changing sheets, vacumming, and scrubbing bathrooms were burning each hour.

The researchers also wanted this information to stick in their heads daily, so they gave the attendants a handout showing the quantities of calories they were burning doing each activity of their jobs.  They were also shown a poster daily that reinforced how many calories they were burning.

2.  The control group of hotel cleaning attendants was simply informed of the benefits of exercise, but were NOT told how many calories they were burning doing their work, and also were NOT told that their work actually constituted a good form of exercise.

The researchers studied the existing lifestyles of all of the participants in both groups as well as giving them various health tests, including weigh-ins.

The study was conducted for 4 weeks.  The researchers made sure that none of the participants had actually changed their exercise habits, smoking, or eating habits outside of work.  This assured that there was no external lifestyle factor that could have accounted for the results of the study.

In addition, the hotel managers assured that the workloads of both groups stayed the same throughout the entire experiment.

Here are the VERY interesting results:

It turned out that the group of hotel cleaning attendants that was informed daily about the calorie-burning effects of their normal work routines ended up losing a significant amount of weight, lowered their body mass index and waist-to-hip ratio, and decreased their blood pressure.

The control group of hotel attendants that was not told about the calories they burned while doing their work showed NONE of these improvements.

Wow… very interesting huh!

Remember that each of these groups received the SAME amount of exercise and did not alter their lifestyle, eating habits, drinking habits, smoking, or anything else.  The only thing that was different between the 2 groups was simply that the one group was constantly being reminded of how beneficial the exercise during their work was for their health and how many calories they were burning, and therefore their minds were busy believing in the benefits of it.

This actually doesn't surprise me… this is classic placebo effect at work here, and reinforces how powerful our brains are in relation to the results we get from exercise, food, supplements, etc.

How to use this info to burn more fat in your workouts, build more lean muscle, and improve your health more from exercise and nutrition

There's a good lesson in this study.  If you strongly believe in your mind that the workouts that you are doing are drastically improving your body, your results will increase dramatically from those workouts.

The trick I've used over the years is to really "get mental" during your workouts and believe strongly that the exercise you are doing is transforming your body into a lean chiseled machine. (This is assuming that you're actually doing legit workouts such as Truth About Abs routines and not just wasting time reading a magazine while pedaling away on a boring exercise bike or treadmill).

So, if you want to burn more fat, not only do you need to workout intensely (for your individual capabilities), but you also need to mentally visualize the results you're getting, the bodyfat you are burning, and really strongly believe in how powerful the workout routine that you are doing really is for your body.

Along the same lines, if your goal is to build more muscle, then you really need to strongly believe in your mind at how powerfully your workouts are helping you to build muscle.

And this can be applied to your food intake too!

Don't underestimate how powerful your mind really is… If you are eating healthy foods such as those detailed in my Truth About Abs manual, make sure that you are also actively thinking in your mind about how those foods are dramatically helping your body, making you stronger, making you leaner, improving your energy and health, and so on.

Don't ignore this… this will drastically improve your results if you actively think about how truly healthy the foods you are eating every day are and how they are changing your body.  This is assuming that you actually are eating truly healthy foods every day.

Another benefit of this "mental programming" is that it trains you to actually want to avoid junk foods, because you want to be able to think about how everything you eat is improving your body instead.

So there you go… an interesting study that shows how you can legitimately increase your results from your exercise and nutrition by just actively thinking about the benefits of both every day!

(Keep reading to find out how you can greatly improve your running efficiency and prevent and treat knee pain and injury!)

But strength training will make me bulky and slow, right?

Wrong again! The additional strength and power gained from additional muscle mass far outweighs the stress of carrying a few extra pounds.  The right strengthening techniques set you up for greater running success by ensuring the proper alignment as you land each step.  The right type of strength training will change the way your body moves as well as how it looks – you'll see a leaner build without any bulking up.

Running speed is a product of stride length and frequency. In other words, the length of your step times the number of steps your make equals your speed. (Who knew the math was so simple?) Stride length is a function of strength, power, and stability, and can only be increased by increasing those factors. (If you want to learn the best way to increase power and stability, while curing pain and injury, stay with me and I'll share my secrets to improving running performance!)

So you're telling me I need to do more leg lifts and IT Band stretches?

Nope! I'm going to let you in on a little known fact– While strengthening and stretching the legs are beneficial to any athlete, the BEST way to increase stability and power is through core strength training.

That's right– you need to train your core muscles if you want to run faster, farther, and without the risk of pain or injury. The core muscles of the body function as "central command" during all movement, especially running. Your core controls stride frequency and the force production of the lower body (stride length), regulating your running efficiency. Core muscles are also integral to keeping your stride aligned to a neutral position, which is crucial to preventing and curing the three most common running injuries– IT Band Syndrome, Patellofemoral Pain (commonly known as "Runners Knee"), and shin splints.  It's worht noting that IT Band stretches, anti-inflammatory medications, and massages will only offer temporary relief.

So you're saying that a weak core and improper alignment are to blame for my knee pain and my slow running times? So all I have to do is strengthen my core and straighten my stride? Then I'll cure my running injuries and increase my speed and distance?

Now you're catching on! It's as simple as following my unique training program specifically designed to help identify your muscular imbalances and misalignment in your stride, AND help you target core muscle groups in your training sessions.
